Success Factors
Designed for Multi-Network Reliability
Llama Networks designed a mobile connectivity solution that combined multiple cellular carriers and Starlink into a single, cohesive setup. This approach enabled consistent connectivity across widely varying coverage conditions, even when severe weather impacted individual connections.
Simple, Centralized Setup
The solution consolidated multiple connections into a single, unified setup, reducing complexity and simplifying management throughout the journey.
Seamless Performance Across Networks
Peplink SpeedFusion combined multiple connections into a single, seamless link, enabling stable video calls and online work even when individual networks were disrupted.
Jennifer is Chief Legal Officer at a mid-size company. She needed to be continuously available to manage a complex acquisition and wind-down process. That work involved back-to-back video conferences, reviewing and executing time-sensitive documents, and coordinating with stakeholders across multiple time zones.
That would be daunting under any circumstances. She had to do it while traveling in an Airstream trailer across 17 states over five weeks. So, Jennifer requested that Llama Networks kit out a solution that would allow her to have truly unbreakable connectivity.
The Challenge: Constant connectivity across a five-week cross-country road trip
Jennifer had planned a five-week cross-country road trip in an Airstream travel trailer, departing from Texas and looping through 17 states and Washington, D.C. The route spanned dense urban corridors, rural dead zones, coastal regions, and mountainous terrain.
Canceling the trip was not an option, and neither was compromising on connectivity. A single dropped call during a critical negotiation could have significant consequences for the deal.
No single carrier or connection type could provide reliable coverage across the entire route. Cellular performance varied widely by location, and satellite connectivity could be affected by obstructions such as trees, terrain, and severe weather.
The connection also had to provide enough bandwidth to support smooth, uninterrupted video conferencing throughout the journey.
The Solution: Seamlessly combining cellular and satellite connectivity
Llama Networks designed and installed a mobile connectivity solution built to maintain consistent performance across widely varying network conditions. At the center of the deployment was a Peplink MAX BR2 Pro 5G router, configured to bring together multiple network sources into a single, unified connection. To incorporate all three major U.S. cellular networks, a Peplink 5G Dongle was used alongside the router.
The complete network solution combined those cellular connections with Starlink satellite connectivity, creating multiple independent paths for data across both cellular and satellite networks. This approach ensured that no single point of failure could disrupt connectivity as conditions changed across the route.
Peplink SpeedFusion combined these connections into a single, seamless link, allowing active sessions to remain stable even as individual networks fluctuated or dropped.
As the vehicle traveled through regions with inconsistent coverage, the system relied on whichever connections were available at a given location. In rural areas where a cellular carrier lost signal, the remaining connections maintained performance. When satellite connectivity was affected by terrain or severe weather, cellular connections continued to support active sessions without interruption.
The Outcome: Uninterrupted connectivity across five weeks and 17 states
Over five weeks and 17 states on the road, Jennifer maintained uninterrupted connectivity.
Her video conferences ran without interruption. Not a single call was dropped due to connectivity issues. In fact, Jennifer’s connection proved more stable than that of colleagues working from traditional home offices and corporate environments. While team members at their desks experienced connection drops, frozen video, and laggy audio during the same meetings, her connection delivered consistent, high-quality video and audio throughout.
Staying connected through a tornado warning
Perhaps the most dramatic test of the system came in South Carolina, when a tornado warning was issued. While severe weather disrupted the Starlink satellite signal, the three cellular connections maintained connectivity without interruption. Jennifer stayed on her video call through the entire event. Her colleagues on the other end had no idea she was in the path of severe weather.
